Description

Ambocoelia
pyrite-replaced
Fossil Type: Brachiopod
Formation: Boyle Limestone
Age: Givetian, Middle Devonian
Location: Lebanon, Marion Co., Kentucky
Size: 5 x 4.5 cm
Preservation type: Pyrite
Comments: Probably Ambocoelia umbonata
(Conrad), with a possibly rhynchonellid
brachiopod, too. From the contact of the
Boyle Limestone with the overlying iron-rich New Albany Shale. Not typical
preservation for locality.
